What are Carpet Beetles?
Carpet beetles originally get their name from the fact that they feed on wool carpets. Today most of our carpets are made from synthetic materials, but this does not mean that they are any less of a problem because of their diverse diets.

They are known to feed on any item composed of animal fibres such as wool, furs, silk, feather, felt and leather. They may also feed on clothing, beddings and floor coverings.

There are a number of species of carpet beetles that are active in Australia, but the most commonly encountered species are the variegated carpet beetle and the black carpet beetle.
